Effect of Multiscale Endplates on Wing-Tip Vortex

چکیده

An experimental investigation is conducted to study the effect of multiscale endplates on wing-tip vortex and wing aerodynamic performance at Reynolds numbers 215,000 244,000 based mean chord a NACA 0012 half-span wing. Two groups are tested. The first group has three different fractal patterns applied along top edge endplate, while second two-scale its outboard surface. It experimentally shown that both geometry modifications produce weaker less coherent vortex. Moreover, peak in power spectral density fluctuating axial velocity core Strouhal between 3 10 observed for plain groups, it vanishes endplates. This suggests act structure, making through production smaller eddies as evidenced by spectra. also show potential improvements terms efficiency, with maximum being up 11.1% larger than corresponding endplate.

Effect of Wing Sweep Angle on the Vortex Interaction of a Tail-Wing Configuration

The goal of this investigation is to study the effect of wing sweep angle on the horizontal wing-body- tail configurations in subsonic flow. For this purpose, a series of wind tunnel tests were conducted on a model having a moveable horizontal tail and a wing planform with different sweep angles. Tests were performed at different tail deflection angles. Static surface pressure distribution over...

Aero-Optic Effects of a Wing Tip Vortex

For an airborne optical system carried by a helicopter, aero-optic aberrations originate primarily from blade tip vortices that pass through the system field of view; these aberrations result from the reduced pressure and density in the vortex cores and the associated variations in the index-of-refraction. Using the weakly compressible model (WCM) previously developed at Notre Dame, aero-optic ...

Correction of wandering smoothing effects on static measurements of a wing-tip vortex

Wandering is a typical feature of wing-tip vortices and it consists in random fluctuations of the vortex core. Consequently, vortices measured by static measuring techniques appear to be more diffuse than in reality, so that a correction method is needed. In the present paper statistical simulations of the wandering of a Lamb-Oseen vortex are first performed by representing the vortex core loca...

Large Eddy Simulation of Wing Tip Vortex in the Near Field

Large eddy simulation with filtered-structure-function subgrid model and implicit large eddy simulation (ILES without explicit subgrid model) using high-order accuracy and high resolution compact scheme have been performed on the tip vortex shedding from a rectangular half-wing with a NACA 0012 airfoil section and a rounded wing tip. The formation of the tip vortex and its initial development i...
